Pre-application stage

Two new housing developments are being proposed for our village.

On 6 May 2021, 82.57% of Ashington residents voted in favour of our Neighbourhood Plan. After five years of consultation and an independent examination, the village agreed where new homes should - and should not - be built between 2019 and 2031. Two developers are now preparing planning applications for sites that were not in that plan.

This site exists to keep Ashington informed: what is being proposed, why it matters, and what residents will be able to do once the planning applications are formally submitted.

What's being proposed

Why it matters

The Ashington Neighbourhood Plan was made by Horsham District Council on 23 June 2021 after five years of consultation, an independent examination, and a referendum at which the village voted 796 to 168 in favour. It allocates land for 225 new homes between 2019 and 2031 - on two specific sites residents themselves chose.

Neither of these new proposals is on one of those sites. Both have been considered before, by the village's own site-selection process in 2018 and by Horsham District Council in its 2023 Regulation 19 Local Plan evidence base, and rejected on each occasion.

Stay informed

When either application is formally submitted to Horsham District Council, residents will have a 21-day window in which to make their views known. We will text you when that happens.
